How International A level Further Mathematics works

Start here: how Further Mathematics is built from the shared unit pool, and when the units are offered.

The structure

International A level Further Mathematics (YFM01): F1 is compulsory, plus F2 or F3, plus four more units chosen from F2, F3, M1 to M3, S1 to S3 and D1. The units you use for Further Mathematics must be different from the six you use for Mathematics.

International AS Further Mathematics (XFM01): F1 plus two more units.

When to sit them

F1 (WFM01), F2 (WFM02) and F3 (WFM03) are offered in January and June only in 2026/27, not in October.

Can a student enter F1 in October 2026?

Check the availability: F1 is January and June only.

Answer: No. The first chance in 2026/27 is January 2027.

Key idea: Further Mathematics = F1, plus F2 or F3, plus four more units from the pool (YFM01). F units are January and June only.
